The Regensburg Center for Ultrafast Nanoscopy (RUN) is honored to have received the Rainer Markgraf Award 2026, presented by the Rainer Markgraf Foundation during a festive ceremony held on November 4, 2026, at Villa Markgraf in Bayreuth.
The award recognizes not only scientific excellence, but also the collaborative spirit that lies at the heart of RUN. Since its founding, the center has brought together researchers from different disciplines to address fundamental questions in physics, chemistry, biology, and medicine through a shared vision and a highly interdisciplinary approach.
During the ceremony, RUN spokespersons Prof. Dr. Christine Ziegler, Prof. Dr. Rupert Huber, Prof. Dr. Ralph Witzgall, and Prof. Dr. Jascha Repp reflected on the development of the center, the challenges and opportunities of interdisciplinary research, and the importance of fostering the next generation of scientists. Together with Florian Prosch, Chairman of the Board of the Rainer Markgraf Foundation, they discussed the origins of RUN, the enthusiasm that drives discovery, and the role of scientific collaboration in addressing future challenges.
RUN sincerely thanks the Rainer Markgraf Foundation for this prestigious recognition and for its commitment to supporting scientific excellence, innovation, and young researchers. We are particularly grateful to Florian Prosch and the Foundation’s team for their trust in our mission and their continued support of research and education.
We would also like to express our appreciation to Prof. Dr. Udo Hebel, President of the University of Regensburg, for his laudatory speech and longstanding support of RUN, as well as to Regierungspräsident Walter Jonas and Regierungspräsident Florian Luderschmid for emphasizing the importance of scientific collaboration and research excellence for the future development of the region.
This award is a recognition of the entire RUN community. We thank all researchers, staff, students, and partners whose dedication, creativity, and commitment have helped make RUN an internationally recognized center for interdisciplinary research.
As we look ahead, this distinction encourages us to continue pushing the boundaries of ultrafast nanoscopy and exploring new frontiers at the intersection of disciplines.
