Rainer Markgraf Foundation Visits RUN

Following the award of the Rainer Markgraf Award 2026 to the Regensburg Center for Ultrafast Nanoscopy (RUN), RUN recently welcomed Florian Prosch, Chairman of the Board of the Rainer Markgraf Foundation, for a visit to the University of Regensburg.

During a tour of the center’s laboratories and research facilities, Mr. Prosch gained first-hand insights into RUN’s interdisciplinary research activities and state-of-the-art infrastructure. Researchers presented current projects in ultrafast nanoscopy and discussed how advanced optical methods are being used to explore fundamental processes in light and matter on ultrafast timescales.

The visit provided an opportunity for in-depth discussions on the importance of excellent basic research, scientific innovation, and the promotion of young researchers. It also highlighted the value of strong partnerships between research institutions and philanthropic organizations in advancing scientific discovery and supporting future generations of scientists.

RUN would like to express its sincere gratitude to Florian Prosch and the Rainer Markgraf Foundation for their continued interest in and support of research excellence.

The center was also pleased to welcome Prof. Dr. Udo Hebel, President of the University of Regensburg, and Prof. Dr. Ernst Tamm, former Vice President of the University, whose participation contributed to a stimulating exchange on the future of science, innovation, and academic collaboration.

The visit underscored the shared commitment of RUN and the Rainer Markgraf Foundation to fostering scientific excellence and creating lasting impact both within the region and beyond the Oberpfalz.
