Quantum Geometry in Ultrafast Optics

Quantum geometry describes the geometric properties of quantum states. Together with Giancarlo Soavi’s group (University of Jena), researchers from the RUN developed a theory focusing on one aspect of quantum geometry, the Berry Curvature. The researchers show how it can be probed on ultrafast timescales by analyzing the circular polarization of second-harmonic light. This approach is used to estimate the Berry curvature in an atomically thin semiconductor from experimental data.
