Prof. Peter Hegemann receives prestigious Lasker award

Most renowned price for biomedical research in the US is awarded to Peter Hegemann, Dieter Oesterhelt and Karl Deisseroth

Peter Hegemann (Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin), Dieter Oesterhelt (Max Planck Institut für Biochemie) and Karl Deisseroth (Stanford University) share the 2021 Albert Lasker Basic Medical Research Award for the discovery of light-sensitive microbial Rhodopsin proteins and their use to activate or silence brain cells. Their work advanced optogenetic technologies, which led to an improved understanding of neurodegenerative and psychological diseases.
