On Wednesday, May 8, 2024, the “Regensburg Center for Ultrafast Nanoscopy” (RUN) was officially opened. This unique research center allows scientists from various disciplines to explore ultrafast movements in the nanocosmos with unprecedented spatial and temporal resolution using cutting-edge slow-motion cameras.
Prominent guests included Bavarian Minister of Science and Arts Markus Blume, the director of the Building Authority Regensburg Karl Stock and Mayor Dr. Astrid Freudenstein as well as members of the state parliament Patrick Grossmann and Jürgen Eberwein. University President Prof. Dr. Udo Hebel welcomed the guests, followed by addresses from Markus Blume and Karl Stock. The RUN director Prof. Dr. Rupert Huber, introduced the new research opportunities at the center.
President Hebel highlighted the importance of advancing interdisciplinary research and positioning the university at the forefront of quantum science. Minister Blume emphasized the groundbreaking nature of the RUN and its impact on quantum microscopy, made possible by the Hightech Agenda Bayern. After the symbolic key handover the VIPs got a first-hand impression of the unique research possibilities at the RUN during a guided tour through the brand-new laboratories.
